A tragic accident claimed the life of a Chambers County man.

52-year-old John David Cook Jr. died Wednesday night while working with a 37mm flare gun on his back patio. Cook's wife says she was awoke to her husband screaming in the living room.

Cook was transported to Memorial Hermann with an open chest wound where he later died. Police say they found other fireworks in and around the home. They do not believe alcohol was a factor.
